Activate NCS had a very busy summer!
It’s been a busy summer for the staff and young people who took part in the National Citizen Service (NCS) Somerset programme.
The Activate team, who delivers the 4-week NCS programme in Somerset, provides 15-17 year olds the opportunity to go outside their comfort zone, experience loving away from home and develop their own social enterprise scheme.
During the four-week course, the students part-took in adrenaline-filled adventures, such as rock climbing, a colour run and rope walking across rivers. The group were also challenged by Paralympic-style games, such as blind football – encouraging team work and trust.
The teenagers grasped the opportunity to develop ideas for a social enterprise. They attended inspirational talks from EDF Careers, product development and branding workshops.
Activate’s young people helped the community by volunteering at Taunton Association for the Homeless (@Arc_Homeless), conducting a beach clear-up at Burnham-on-Sea and repainting the fences at Bishop Henderson Primary School in Taunton.
In the final weeks, teams of students fundraise. This year saw 15-17year olds complete a 12 hour Sportathon, stop crowds of shoppers in Taunton with a dance routine, hold a cake sale and collect money in fairy-tale fancy dress costumes!
Local charities to benefit from the programme include: Love Musgrove, Stand Against Violence, Taunton Rail Responders and Mind.
Well done to all involved! Here’s a selection of our favourite pictures, tweeted by @activate_NCS:
