Students 'blown away' by robotics technology at Numatic International
Numatic International opened their doors to a group of Year 10 students on 29 November in order to help local young people gain an insight into the manufacturing sector and opportunities for work and career progression in the county.
The students from Preston School, Bucklers Mead Academy, Wadham School and Westfield Academy spent 3 hours at Numatic International. Supported by the organisation's apprentices, the TalentEd Academy toured the premises, learnt about the level of local production and were wowed by the robotics technology. After the tour, the 14 and 15 year olds took part in a team task activity.
Careers and Skills Adviser from Inspired to Achieve, Emma France, who accompanied the students commented:
"Having Cameron, Chelsie and Brad (the apprentices) involved really inspired the students as they could relate to them and also see how working in this industry is achievable. They were really impressive young people and great ambassadors. I was also really pleased that we could provide them for a platform to reach some of their qualification targets too."
Somerset TalentEd Academies wishing to thank Roy and Steve, who were outstanding and brought Numatic International to life as the students toured the company. Our thanks also to Manufacturing Manager, Stuart Cochrane, for helping to make this day happen.
Students feedback revealed that they were impressed by the amount of people Numatic International, based in Chard, employ and the amount of Henrys that are produced each and every day. They were also wowed by the amount of other vacuum cleaners and cleaning equipment the manufacturer produces, the size of the site (25 acres) and the level of local production.
One Westfield Academy student said:
"Seeing the robotics was amazing, it’s incredible to think that they make 4,000 Henrys a day!"
The Year 10s also commented on how the apprentices were treated like members of staff and obviously respected. They could also see how beneficial it is to work at Numatic to gain experience and progress in the industry. They all appreciated being able to meet a range of different levels of staff members from the Manufacturing Manger, to the apprentices.
The Somerset TalentEd Academies are a great opportunity for employers to meet young people that are interested in their industry sector. TalentEd Academies provide Somerset’s young people with the chance to visit employers. The result of the academies provides the following benefits:
- Learners with a real interest in an industry sector obtain a meaningful visit to real businesses that specialise in the sector activity.
- Employers get to meet young people face to face, and learn how to engage them and what their interests are.
We are still looking for businesses to host the academies. If you run a businesses, and are keen to meet the next generation with passions the same as you, visit here for more information or contact us.
