Heart of South West is granted New Career Hub

20 new Career Hubs are being established in England to support and improve careers education for young people.

Heart of South West (Devon, Plymouth, Somerset and Torbay) has been successful in its application to set up a new Careers Hub for the area. Comprising of up to 40 schools and colleges, Hubs help universities, training providers, employers and career professionals to work with students and teachers.

A central part of the government’s December 2017 Careers Strategy, £5 million has been allocated to support the project over a 2-year period.

Our Career Hub will have:

  • Access to support and funding to help educators meet the eight Gatsby Benchmarks of excellent careers education.
  • A ‘Hub Lead’ to help coordinate activity and build networks
  • Access to bursaries for individual schools and colleges to train ‘careers leaders’
  • Central Hub Fund of equivalent to £1k per school or college
  • Access to funding for schools to support employer encounters
