Could you support The Ideas Factory in Somerset?
UK Youth and The David Evans Grass Roots Foundation are working in partnership to pilot a new programme, engaging young people in entrepreneurship and enterprise.
There are opportunities for employers to help deliver the programme in Bridgwater and Street in the coming months. Could you share your skills and enterprise experience to help inspire young people?
Young people between the ages of 14-25 in each region will be involved in a Challenge Day to brainstorm a business solution in order to help solve a problem within their local area or a global issue close to their heart. The winning ideas from each region, and their young creators, will receive support in the form of workshops and mentoring, to further develop their entrepreneurial skills!

You can take part by volunteering for one of the roles listed below:
Volunteer to support at a Challenge Day
When: 26th October
Where: Street Youth Centre, Strode Rd, Street BA16 0AS
Time: 10am - 4pm
This role will involve you working closely with a group of young people, supporting them to come up with their own business solutions. This is a support and guidance role, as the youth worker will lead the session and provide the young people with a framework in design thinking to follow.
As a volunteer, you will share your own stories and knowledge of enterprise, keeping the young people enthused and on task. Volunteers should be passionate about social enterprise and feel confident in their ability to communicate with young people.
We are looking for volunteers to attend the full day, to provide consistency for the young people involved. If you are volunteering, you may also be asked to sit on the judging panel at the end of the day, listening and scoring pitches to crown the best ideas with fellow judges. Volunteers will receive a virtual induction prior to attending the Challenge Day.
Volunteer to Mentor
When: 16th November
Time: 10 - 4pm. 40-minute mentoring session per group of young people.
Where: Recreation Youth and Community Centre, Rhode Lane, Bridgwater, TA6 6HZ
Can you inspire a young person? Do you have skills and experience in enterprise to share? At this point in the programme young people will have come up with a business idea but may have no experience or knowledge on how to lift it off the paper into action! We are looking for one or two volunteers to deliver a short mentoring session supported by a youth worker.
Based on your professional experience, the young people will come up with some questions to ask you in the session, hoping to learn more about your journey as an entrepreneur, the successes and failures. They will introduce you to their business idea, providing you with an opportunity to offer advice and guidance. You will be trained by UK Youth prior to volunteering, providing an induction to the programme and this session.
Volunteer to support at the Ideas Accelerator
When: 23rd November
Time: 10am - 4pm.
Where: Street Youth Centre, Strode Rd, Street BA16 0AS
What are the different types of enterprise models? What is my business model? How can I fund and market my idea? These are all questions these budding young entrepreneurs will seek to answer during the Ideas Accelerator and apply to their own ideas.
Do you remember a time when you had to answer these questions for your own enterprise? If so, this is the volunteering role for you. We are looking for individuals who have been through an enterprise journey, maybe you’re a young entrepreneur yourself, and can help translate these topics into real-life examples and a language young people can grasp and engage in. The session will be delivered by a youth worker, but volunteers will help to work with groups of young people as they go through structured activities. Volunteers will receive a virtual induction prior to attending.
If you are interested in any of these roles, contact Somerset EBP at support@somerset-ebp.co.uk or call us on 01823 785440.
