Work Experience & Industry Placement Opportunities
Somerset County Council are pleased to offer work experience placements, internships and industry placements for students throughout the organisation.
Work Experience:
Work experience placements can be offered to individuals at college, university or post-graduate level who are looking to have a meaningful introduction to the workplace. These placements can take place in any department and are usually bespoke to a student's needs. SCC also run a work experience programme for GCSE students every summer.
Internships:
Here at Somerset County Council we value the contributions that students can bring. We have a successful internship programme whereby post A-Level or university students have a meaningful experience of the workplace. Whilst the individual benefits from improving their employability and skills, an employer may gain a new, motivated employee. Internships can last from 2 to 12 months.
T Levels / Industry Placements:
T Levels are a new Level 3 qualification being formally launched in Autumn 2020. They are a mix of classroom based learning and on-the-job learning, via placements known as "industry placements". Somerset County Council will be offering opportunities for students looking to complete industry placements as part of their course and will be establishing these in all available parthways. The Council has already engaged in some trial placements and we will be well placed for the launch of this new programme later this year.
